The diversity of changes in scholarship in different fields

Scholars in the many disciplines have widely varying traditions and norms. No wonder that changes in how scholarship is conducted and communicated are playing out in different ways in different fields. Have a look at some of the overarching themes, visions, and examples of developments in selected fields.

New kinds of scholarly works
New forms of scholarship are emerging from the possibilities of the digital networked environment. Here are a few examples.

Reuse of data
As scholarship has become increasingly data-intensive — the result of digital technologies and networks — it is important to ensure that many types of digital data can be reused for purposes that go well beyond those for which they were collected.

Increase of Open Access
Journal articles, once available only to subscribers and ‘authorized users’, increasingly are becoming freely available on the web.

Use of social media (in Dutch)
If you want people to read your papers, make them open access, and let the community know (via twitter, blogs, Facebook etc.) where to get them.
