This two-part workshop will cover key considerations and best practices when creating a theme for OJS. The first part will show you how to get started creating a child theme to modify another theme's HTML and CSS code. In the second part, I will share my tried and tested techniques to build maintainable, performant themes. We'll cover good ways to load custom data, create new pages, organise your code, and use modern build tools like Vite.

  • Participating institutes in this agreement are Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), Groningen University (RUG), Delft University of Technology (TUD), Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE), Leiden University (UL), Maastricht University (UM), Utrecht University (UU), University of Amsterdam (UvA), Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), and Wageningen University (WUR).
  • Corresponding authors (teaching/research staff and students) employed/enrolled at participating institutes can publish their articles open access without any costs in the selected journals.
  • All of Thieme’s English language hybrid and all full open access journals are part of the agreement.
  • Publication types that are part of the agreement: original papers and review papers, brief communications, continuing education, case reports, letters to the editor and invited letters.


How does it work?

  • Use your institutional email address or (up to date) ORCID to make your affiliation known when submitting an article. In this stage Thieme will determine eligibility for cost free open access.
  • Submitted articles that are part of the agreement will be published cost free open access with a CC BY license after acceptance.

Join this session to hear about the initial findings from UNESCO’s Global Consultation on Diamond Open Access. The consultation, launched in July 2024, builds on the values of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science (2021) and seeks to identify priorities, challenges, and opportunities in the Diamond OA landscape. This session will provide an overview of the consultation process, present early results from the multilingual global survey, and invite input on possible next steps.
