Publish Review Curate

Publish, Review, Curate (PRC) is a scholarly publishing model in which research outputs are first published prior to any subsequent open review and/or curation. The model consists of three steps:

• Publish: a research output (e.g., article, dataset, study registration) is made public by a researcher, typically in a preprint server or repository

• Review: reviewers evaluate the research output and provide feedback in an open, transparent way, often independent of journals

• Curate: research outputs and reviews are organised and highlighted, at regular or innovative journals or other venues.

What are the benefits of this model?

• Puts researchers in control of their publishing process

• Accelerates sharing and deduplicates reviewing work

• Unlocks the full value of reviewing

• Contributes to more transparent research assessment

• Makes the publishing system more equitable and sustainable

What happens in the Netherlands?

  • One OSNL-funded project has started support research communities in taking up PRC publishing, through friendly workflows, technology and training.

  • Attention for community-driven publishing (diamond/PRC) in policies.

  • Institutions and libraries financially supporting PRC initiatives.
