The conference will focus on the complexities we know we face in asking how we achieve a future with 100% open access. Collectively we will consider the key questions that arise from pursuing this goal, for example, can pursuit of the goal itself distract us from quality, sustainability and inclusivity in scholarly communications? Should 100% even be the goal and what do we mean by it?

How do we address the crucial underlying issues to tackle in our research culture and with research integrity? Does a focus on transitioning from paywalled to open access content detract from the efforts of those already delivering 100% open access? And how is the wider geopolitical landscape impacting our ambitions?

Date: 22-24 September, 2025

Location: Irish College Leuven, Belgium
