The national project ‘Infrastructures for Diamond Open Access in the Netherlands’ is a collaboration between the Universities of the Netherlands (UNL), Netherlands University Presses (NUPs), Openjournals and SURF to integrate existing diamond open access publication platforms for articles, journals and academic (text)books into a single high-quality, flexible national infrastructure.

In addition to setting up a single integrated technical publication platform, we will be working on the development of a joint catalogue of editorial services, such as typesetting, metadata management and archiving. A harmonised publication policy, joint ownership and a funding model for journals are also part of the project. 

The initiative represents a significant step towards strengthening Diamond Open Access in the Netherlands and expanding the opportunities for academic community-led, non-profit publications. 

We are making the national infrastructure available to university presses, research institutes and other research organisations that wish to manage and publish their own academic output.
